Four teams clear at West Point

UM Debate advanced four teams into the elimination rounds of the US Military Academy tournament. Congratulations to all debaters, especially Joe and Russ for making it to the semi-finals.

1st Place at Georgia State

The debate team came out on top at the season opener at Georgia State University. Congratulations to Ashley and Barbara on the 1st place finish.

UM Ranked 11th

The University of Miami Debate Team starts off the year ranked 11th in the country according to the NDT school rankings.

UM Dominates at UCF

The novices shined at their first tournament, the Sunshine State Showdown sponsored by UCF.

2013 - 2014 HS Topic: Cuba

The NFHS has decided on the following resolution for high schoolers for 2013 - 2014. Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic engagement toward Cuba, Mexico or Venezuela.

On the wave of another outstanding tournament performance at Vanderbilt this weekend, The University of Miami Debate Team has moved up to #8 Nationally in the National Debate Tournament Rankings (up from #11 in the previous ranking). Schools looking up at UM include traditional powerhouses Northwestern, Harvard, Vanderbilt, Emory, and over 100 other schools. We trail only Wake Forest in the Southeast region (they are 5^th). UM is #11 (up from 12) in the Cross Examination Debate Association rankings. Both rankings reward points based on ballots won across all divisions of debate. UM is helped by the size of its team, with 26 UM students already representing the U in intercollegiate debate competition.
