Four teams clear at West Point

UM Debate advanced four teams into the elimination rounds of the US Military Academy tournament. Congratulations to all debaters, especially Joe and Russ for making it to the semi-finals.

1st Place at Georgia State

The debate team came out on top at the season opener at Georgia State University. Congratulations to Ashley and Barbara on the 1st place finish.

UM Ranked 11th

The University of Miami Debate Team starts off the year ranked 11th in the country according to the NDT school rankings.

UM Dominates at UCF

The novices shined at their first tournament, the Sunshine State Showdown sponsored by UCF.

2013 - 2014 HS Topic: Cuba

The NFHS has decided on the following resolution for high schoolers for 2013 - 2014. Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic engagement toward Cuba, Mexico or Venezuela.

Barbara Puodzius & Anna Ivanova

On Sunday, the UM Novice Debate Team of Barbara Puodzius and Anna Ivanova advanced to the final round of the American Debate Association National Championships tournament hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. In route to the championship round, Barbara and Anna compiled a 4-2 record in the preliminary rounds, scoring wins over Liberty University, Vanderbilt, Boston College and James Madison. They defeated a team from George Mason University in the round of 16, before facing the top George Mason team in quarterfinals. UM gave GMU only their 2^nd loss in 20 debates, advancing into a semifinal match with rival Wake Forest.
