Four teams clear at West Point
UM Debate advanced four teams into the elimination rounds of the US Military Academy tournament. Congratulations to all debaters, especially Joe and Russ for making it to the semi-finals.
1st Place at Georgia State
The debate team came out on top at the season opener at Georgia State University. Congratulations to Ashley and Barbara on the 1st place finish.
UM Ranked 11th
The University of Miami Debate Team starts off the year ranked 11th in the country according to the NDT school rankings.
The Debate Team Kicks Off Competition This Weekend at Loyola, Chicago

This weekend the University of Miami debate team will be competing in it's first tournament of the season at the Loyola Rambler Parliamentary Debate Tournament in Chicago. The team will be breaking new ground by competing for the first time in the National Parliamentary Debate Association circuit style of debate. Two returning members will be joined by four new faces on the trip to Chi-town.
Coming back to the team for the second year, sophomores Ryden Butler and Ali Jessani will be competing in the varsity division along newcomers Jeremy Tan and Ishtpreet Singh. In the novice division, the U will be represented by Joe Karam and Russ Wilde.

The team will be holding an open house for all interested members this Friday, August 24th at 3:30 p.m. in WCB 4026 (Wolfson School of Communication).
Participation on the team is open to all undergraduate students at the University of Miami and no experience is required. If you'd like to join the team, but cannot make it to the Friday meeting, contact Coach Dave Steinberg at Dave@miami.edu.

The University of Miami debate team has had a remarkable start to the spring semester. With the invitational tournament season winding down, the squad has been hard at work competing at the Monmouth University and University of Florida tournaments in back to back weekends. After all the hard work and long trips back and forth to the tournaments, the teams came home with numerous accolades including top speaker honors and an appearance in the national semifinals for policy debate.

Congratulations to the freshmen novice team of Ali Jessani and Ryden Butler. The guys had a great preliminary record and made it to elimination rounds at the Monmouth tournament. Right now, they are going negative against Liberty in the Octofinals round. More details to come.
